This past week the kids went on a field trip to the local Fire station. One of the members of Troy and I's Sunday School class is a local firefighter so the kids got to visit his station. It would be the station that would respond to emergencies in our neighborhood which the kids thought was pretty neat. They got a pretty deluxe tour! They got to get up in the truck and turn on the lights.
One of the other firemen put on all his gear and then talked to the kids about how a fireman is your friend and you should never run from one in case there is a fire. They talked to the kids through their masks so they would hear how their voices are different when they wear the gear.
The truck behind Maddie and Sam in this picture above was a ladder truck. The guys put the ladder up all the way so the kids could see how high it went. It went up eight stores! They hooked up the hoses and let the kids spray water through them. This was of course the kids favorite part! One of the guys changed the water flow to make a rainbow for the kids.

At the end they let them tour the fire house where they live. They sounded the alarm so the kids could hear it go off, and then gave them all a packet of fire prevention coloring books ect.. and fire hats. All of the fireman were so kind to the kids and answered all sorts of questions! (You never know what a kid will come up with!!)

They said our community is so small that if there is a large fire, they will be called to come in. They said that Panama City will of course respond too, but I was just amazed at how dedicated they were to their job! They really went above and beyond for the kids and I appreciate that as well.
