Celebrate His Name

Maddie had her ballet/tap recital this weekend. She did great! As the girls are getting older we noticed that they get to move around the stage alot more. She had her songs memorized and really had alot of fun.
This is her and her dance buddy Elaina. She is in a home school dance class that meets early Monday afternoon. She really enjoys seeing all the girls and forming friendships.
This year Troy and I drove separately so that Maddie could stay after her dance and watch the older girls dance. She was very impressed with the older ones who did the Point dancing on their toes and the ones who picked up the other girls in their dances. She is looking forward to a summer break, but is also excited about dancing again next year.

When the moon is on the rise....

Sandra Boynton's book "The Going to Bed Book" is one of our family favorites. A line in the story says "and when the moon is on the rise, they all go up to exercise!" We happened to see the rise of the biggest moon this past Saturday night on the beach at Tyndall and it was pretty awesome. As the sun was setting in the West the moon was coming up in the East and it was huge! The kids said that the moon-rise looked like a sunset and they were just about right.

Here is Troy doing a little trick photography pretending to balance it on his nose.
We stayed for a while and were actually able to find a few shells by moonlight. I love the peacefulness of the beach and the reminder that God is so much greater than we are.

Honors Convocation

This past Friday Troy was invited to attend the Honors Convocation at the college because he had been selected to receive the award "Civil Engineering Student of the Year". He has worked very hard for the past few years to earn his degree and it was very nice of his professors to select him for this award.
We were all invited to a breakfast that was hosted by the engineering department and he received a plaque there from his professors. It was very interesting to hear the different stories of the students and see hard work be rewarded. One of the students was an immigrant and he started college the year he and his family moved here. Another lady had lost her job when one of the large companies here shut down and had to go back to school to support herself. You could really tell the professors put alot into their students and were very proud of all their accomplishments.

Then we went on the honors convocation that was college wide and he was able to go across the stage and receive a certificate from the head of the student affairs. The whole thing lasted about three hours, but the kids didn't so we excused ourselves after daddy had walked and enjoyed a little fresh air. When he was done they had an outdoor reception for all the students. Troy has really enjoyed his college experience at a small state college and is very grateful for the one on one time he has gotten with the professors.
