This past Friday Troy was invited to attend the Honors Convocation at the college because he had been selected to receive the award "Civil Engineering Student of the Year". He has worked very hard for the past few years to earn his degree and it was very nice of his professors to select him for this award.
We were all invited to a breakfast that was hosted by the engineering department and he received a plaque there from his professors. It was very interesting to hear the different stories of the students and see hard work be rewarded. One of the students was an immigrant and he started college the year he and his family moved here. Another lady had lost her job when one of the large companies here shut down and had to go back to school to support herself. You could really tell the professors put alot into their students and were very proud of all their accomplishments.
Then we went on the honors convocation that was college wide and he was able to go across the stage and receive a certificate from the head of the student affairs. The whole thing lasted about three hours, but the kids didn't so we excused ourselves after daddy had walked and enjoyed a little fresh air. When he was done they had an outdoor reception for all the students. Troy has really enjoyed his college experience at a small state college and is very grateful for the one on one time he has gotten with the professors.
