Maddie lost another tooth this week. Now she has lost 2 naturally and of course one that was knocked out. After she got money from the tooth fairy (in her new tooth fairy pillow from Mimi-thanks Mimi!) Sam has been checking his mouth daily for loose teeth...maybe in a few years buddy! ER visit :-(
On Sunday morning Sam took a tumble off Madaline's Bed and busted his head open on Maddie's dress up trunk. We spent about 3 1/2 hours in the ER to get his head dermabonded back together. He took it like a champ. Hopefully we don't have to go back to the hospital any more this year! I feel like it's our home away from home lately.Saturday, August 21, 2010
School has Begun!
We have started our 2nd year of home schooling. Maddie is doing the video school from Abeka this year and loves it! Her teacher is Mrs. Bere and she listens to every word she says. On Tuesday she was in our room at 6 am asking if she could start school. Hopefully this enthusiasm sticks with her for the rest of the year!
Daddy took us to a downtown park on Friday night to get some pictures of the kids for the beginning of school. We really enjoyed it since we have been getting a little bit of cabin fever staying in with Megan.

All the kids...right after we snapped this picture Maddie tried to stand up with Megan and Troy and I yelled "NO!" Sometimes she thinks she is all grown up and need little reminders to keep everyone safe.

Sam is in K-3 and I'm teaching him. It is going pretty well. Of course this week he has been watching Maddie's K-5 videos and is doing all her counting and letter recognition. We are getting her headphones this weekend so we don't all have to listen to perky Mrs. Bere for the remainder of the year! (the dog is just something that Sam insisted on getting his picture taken with and I'm choosing my battles lately...I thought it was a pretty good picture of the dog.)Wednesday, August 18, 2010
2 weeks
Our Little girl is 2 weeks old now! Hard to believe how fast they grow. She is a very good baby- she sleeps well at night waking only to eat and going right back to sleep, she loves her pacifier and still naps alot during the day. It helps to have a good baby since we started homeschooling this week!
Her looks are changing some to us...she is starting to look like her own little person!
She gets alot of toys from Sam. I guess to him this is how he shows he loves her. He even shared his Lightening McQueen cars yesterday!
Maddie loves to give her hugs and kisses. She is a big help with choosing outfits and diaper changes. I'm glad we are getting into a routine since next week life is going to get even busier when Maddie starts ballet, Sam starts gymnastics and Troy's college classes start.

home at last!
We are very grateful to have our little girl home. We are also very grateful that she is infection free and doing so well. She is a great sleeper so far and a great eater. She has gained back to her birth weight today (8# 5 oz) and seems very content.
Of course Maddie and Sam are in love with her! They were beginning to think that when you had a baby sister she stayed in the hospital. So grateful we can all be a family again and adjust to having a new baby around!

Megan Joy
Megan Joy was born 8/2/10

She has had a rough beginning, but is getting stronger everyday and we are grateful for that. She was born with her umbilical cord wrapped around her neck and they had a hard time getting her to breath. When she did start breathing she was in a little bit of respiratory distress, and her blood sugar was very low. I couldn't nurse her because she was having trouble breathing so she had to go to the nursery for the first 6 hours of her life. They did let my hold her for this picture.
Around 2 pm they had her stabilized and brought her to our room. She is such a cutie, looking alot like her older sister with Sam's mouth. She was very content to lay in her crib, but was irritable when she was held and she really didn't have an interest in nursing. We know every child is different so we just thought she was going to be a very content baby.
Maddie and Sam came up to see her and fell in love right away! She got all kinds of kisses and hugs.

Maddie sat and rocked her for a long time. She is very excited to be a big sister again.
The nurses came to take her to the nursery around 3 am to do their checks and they came back saying that she had vomited a large amount of mucus and wanted us too try and nurse her now since her tummy may have been full of the mucus. She latched on great and seemed very content to nurse.
On Tuesday the Dr's said she looked great and that we were cleared for discharge around 2 pm. They took Megan to the nursery to do her PKU and Bilirubin test, and they never brought her back. When the nurses undressed her they said her respiration's were high and she was using her accessory muscles to breath. Right when they were assessing her our pediatrician called because he said he just had a feeling he needed to check on Megan. They told him about the increased respiration's and he ordered a CBC. Her white blood cell count was sky high (the highest they have seen in this NICU) He immediately admitted her to the NICU and consulted the neonatologist. That Dr. came and assessed her and came straight to our room. She told us that Megan was very sick and they needed to get some further blood work and a possible spinal tap. By this time were we very concerned. It was hard to go from 'your going home' to a 'spinal tap' in the course of 2 hours, but we are grateful that the Dr's were there to treat Megan quickly. She got the other blood work which was also very bad and so the spinal tap could not be avoided. We are very grateful that the spinal tap was negative and her blood cultures have shown no growth so far.
