Summer Days

Summer days are here! It's definitely hot, hot, hot! The kids spent most of last week in their bathing suits playing in water to stay cool. Daddy got them a wading pool and they love just splashing around, and playing pretend in the water.

Nothing like a Popsicle on a hot summer day!

Mommy hopes that it doesn't get much hotter and I'm very grateful for the sun to go down so we can enjoy sitting on the deck to watch them play.

Tim Hawkins

Troy and I got to go on a date night on Friday! We went to see Tim Hawkins (a Christian comedian) in concert and ate dinner with some friends. It was a very nice evening. I laughed so hard I started having contractions during the concert.
Troy is a huge fan of Tim Hawkins and we were very excited that he came to Panama City. Troy got his autograph and bought his entire collection of DVD's so as you can imagine...we are still watching Tim Hawkins!

Dance Recital

Madaline had her first ballet recital on Saturday. She started taking ballet this past fall at a Christian dance studio called "Audience of One" We are very fortunate to have this type of instruction available here. The dances were all very cute and many of them were to Christian songs. She also took beginning tap lessons, but didn't perform in the recital since this was her first year. She is very excited to continue lessons, and can't believe she has to take a summer break :-)
Sorry these pictures are dark, we could only take pictures during dress rehearsal...and it was just dark in there. Her 1st dance was a father/daughter dance to "Butterfly fly Away". It was a tear jerker, but she and Troy did very well. She loves her teacher and soaks in everything she tells her.

Her 2nd dance was a ballet to "A you're adorable". It was very sweet and she remembered the whole song. She didn't act nervous at all on the stage..she must get that from her Daddy! As always Sam had a funny quote. Let's just say a dance recital (and dance lessons every week, and a 1 hour dress rehearsal) is not his idea of a good time...but he did perk up once and say "When I'm older can I dance like a beautiful angel on the stage just like Daddy?" I don't think that Troy liked being compared to a beautiful angel, but I thought it was cute!

Special Night....

On Friday night Daddy and Sam got to go to our church's Father/Son Cookout. They fished and then had a nice dinner and our pastor spoke on Father and Son relationships. This event has been much anticipated by Sam...he had the tickets, his fishing pole, and was dressed at least an hour before they needed to leave! Papa Don went with them also and they all had a great time. Maddie wanted to go to the beach while they were gone, so we loaded up a picnic and headed out. We had a very nice long walk, and yummy supper with Miss Mary.
Maddie found a lot of shells on the beach and has made plans to paint them and cover them with glitter to hang on her Christmas tree. It was a very enjoyable evening!

Strawberry Farm

On Monday we took a field trip to the Strawberry Farm. It was a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to making some strawberry jam this weekend. The kids liked to pick a few strawberries to eat and then they were done. It was pretty hot and they made us walk all the way to the end of a row so the kids were tired before we even started picking.
Maddie was still feeling a little weak form her illness so she didn't have a great time:-( Note to parents: Don't let your little girl wear a white shirt to the strawberry farm...this shirt was streaked red before we left. I'm grateful that it came clean with bleach since this was the first time she wore it!

I'm glad daddy came along because he did most of our picking! My belly kept getting in the way...

After we picked our berries we got to see some animals and play on some farm equipment. This is the part the kids liked the best! We got to see a working bee hive which was pretty cool. They had peacocks, geese, chicken, goats, pigs ect...

Sam got to pet the baby calf. My favorite quote from Sam was "Those baby chickens have ugly faces, but these pigs are so cute!" The pigs were actually wild boars. Only a boy would say this.

Mother's Day

Mother's day was very relaxing. We were glad to be able to attend church since the kids have been out for 2 weeks with illness. The kids took me out to the Olive Garden for dinner on Friday night to avoid the crowds, and made me some cards in the shape of hearts as a surprise. Megan even made one...talented little girl I tell ya!Sunday afternoon we spent with Don and Mary. The kids got to swim and we all played a little wii. We ate Miss Mary's famous Lasagna- and let me tell you, the Olive Garden has nothing on her! We went to Lowe's to pick some flowers out for my garden, but they looked a little sick so we decided we would come back on the weekend for a better selection.
I'm very grateful for My mother, Grandmother, and Miss Mary who have meant so much in our life. I'm also grateful to be a mother to two great kids!

And it's down!

This past weekend Troy and I cut this tree down out of our back yard. It was dying in the middle and we were afraid it wouldn't last through hurricane strength winds. Is it crazy that we cut it down ourselves since we live in a subdivision surrounded by privacy fence???...yes! But if you saw the estimate for the tree man to do it, this was definitely the more economical choice.Troy cut out all the limbs and the kids and I removed them then he cut the tree in half and pulled it down where it wouldn't do any damage. He then had to cut down the rest of the tree. He's still busy splitting and stacking all the wood...we will have some nice fires this winter!
Sam thought this was great fun and has been climbing every tree he can find. He has also requested a chain saw for his birthday. Troy is going to grind the stump out and plant a Maple tree in it's place....something to remind us of home in the fall! (In the background you can see the shed Troy has been working on. We are hoping to finish it by the end of this month. It just needs to be painted and the soffit finished.)

The big one!

Last weekend we went to a cookout and the kids got to fish in our friends the Brock's pond. All the kids caught some fish and here is a picture of Maddie's big one!
